Fifteen square feet inside the panels is not a room, and it is not meant to be. It is the amount of floor you can watch from a kitchen doorway and the amount a new walker can cross in three steps holding the top rail. Twenty-six inches of panel is above the shoulder of a child who is pulling up and low enough that you can lift them out without stooping.

The difference between the two is the box. One is panels, joints, gate, pockets and suction cups, and it stands on whatever floor you already have. The other arrives with a cotton mat that straps to the base with crossed velcro and goes in the washing machine when the day has been what it has been. If your floor is boards or tile, the second one saves you buying a mat separately. If you already have a foam mat, the first is the cheaper way in.

Questions parents ask

What families ask about UANLAUO 47x47 playpen

How much room will your baby have inside a UANLAUO 47x47 playpen?

About fifteen square feet, measured inside the panels. Enough for a baby, a small pile of toys and an adult sitting cross-legged, which is what the pull-up rings and the door are really for.

Does the UANLAUO 47x47 playpen come with a floor, or do you put one down?

One version does and one does not. A pen without a mat stands on the floor already in the room. The version sold with a mat has a cotton one that straps to the base and washes.

Can your baby sleep in a UANLAUO 47x47 playpen?

No. A pen with no floor of its own is not a play yard in the sense the federal rule uses, and it is not a sleep space. The Consumer Product Safety Commission asks parents to use a crib, a bassinet or a play yard that meets federal requirements for sleep, and to move a baby there if they fall asleep somewhere else.

A mat is padding and a pen is a boundary. Neither is a sleep space: the federal definition of a play yard is a framed enclosure that includes a floor, and the enclosures here have no floor of their own. The Consumer Product Safety Commission asks parents to use products intended for sleep - a crib, a bassinet, a play yard or a bedside sleeper that meets federal requirements - and to move a baby to one of those if they fall asleep somewhere else. Neither a mat nor a pen replaces an adult in the room, and nothing on this site should be read as saying otherwise.
