Hot-air balloons over a town, with a red bus, a windmill and a small airplane among them, drawn in red, mustard and gray on cream. The second face is numbers and letters set in a grid, which is a different kind of thing to look at when a baby is on their back rather than their front.

This is the design with something to point at. The balloons are large enough that you will be asked about them before your child can hold one, and the town underneath has enough small parts that they keep finding new ones. Made in the corner size, 59 by 59 inches, and it comes with a carry bag.

What is in a UANLAUO box

  • The mat, 59 × 59 in
  • Both faces printed, so there is no right way up
  • A carry bag

Putting it down

Where it goes
A cleared corner of a living room
Under a door
Four tenths of an inch clears most interior doors, but check yours before you order
Putting it away
Folds along printed creases, and there is a carry bag in the box
After a meal
A damp cloth. Nothing to strip off and nothing to wash
Turning it over
Both faces are printed, so the side you have tired of goes down

There is nothing to assemble. The work is clearing the floor, which is longer than the work of putting the mat on it.

A mat is padding and a pen is a boundary. Neither is a sleep space: the federal definition of a play yard is a framed enclosure that includes a floor, and the enclosures here have no floor of their own. The Consumer Product Safety Commission asks parents to use products intended for sleep - a crib, a bassinet, a play yard or a bedside sleeper that meets federal requirements - and to move a baby to one of those if they fall asleep somewhere else. Neither a mat nor a pen replaces an adult in the room, and nothing on this site should be read as saying otherwise.
